Become a Mentor

Make It Happen

While engaged in Artisans Asylum’s Maker Mentors Program, you’ll help guide developing artists, designers, entrepreneurs, and scientists who could use guidance from the years of experience you bring to every lesson and every project.

The Steps to Sign-up:

  1. Sign up for and attend one of our Mentor Information Sessions.

  2. Fill out and sign our Release of Claims Agreement and CORI & SORI Request Form. You will need to submit them during the next step.

  3. Fill out the Mentor Application to help us determine mentor recommendations and run a background check.

  4. Once your questionnaire’s been reviewed, then you’ll be invited via email to sign up and attend one of our Forging Futures: Mentee-Mentor Meet & Greets.

  5. After you are paired with a mentor, Artisans’ staff will email you and your mentor to schedule a meeting to get your team on the same page.

  6. Attend the Goals Meeting to determine goals for the lifespan of your year-long mentorship.

  7. Your mentorship commences!

Guidelines and Expectations

Time with Mentee

You will be required to check in with your mentee once a week and meet for at least eight hours every month for the lifespan of the mentorship.

1:1 Check-ins with Staff

Mentees will have 15-minute check-ins every other month with an Artisans staff member so we can stay up-to-date on their progress toward the mentorship goals and support them as needed. Mentor check-ins are always available at request.

Pre/Post Surveys

At the beginning and end of your mentorship, you will be asked to take part in a survey to measure your experience and whether or not the Maker Mentorship Program achieved predetermined goals.

Documentation

Helping simple log to document your mentee’s process and progress, along with a collection of photos and/or videos through Google Classroom.

Behavioral Conduct

We believe in fostering a respectful and inclusive environment. Therefore, we expect everyone to conduct themselves with integrity, professionalism, and respect towards one another. Any discriminatory behavior, harassing or disruptive in nature will not be tolerated.

Substance Use

It is strictly prohibited to use drugs or consume alcohol while participating in any “Maker Mentors” related activities or events. Failure to comply with this rule will lead to immediate removal from the program.

FAQs

What if I don’t get matched at the Meet & Greet?

We will keep your information and contact you as more mentees join the program. There are still ways to help the program if you are interested in being involved in the meantime.

Do I have to have a background check?

Yes, as this program will have times when you may be alone with the mentee, we require running CORI and SORI on all volunteers, mentors, and staff involved in the program.

Is there compensation for my time?

This program is a 100% volunteer program with no compensation. It is a wonderful way to help carve a path for the youth in our community. To give back in ways you were or wish you were help in your journey.
