FAQs

Most memberships include access to Artisans Asylum’s workshops and shared spaces. However, many machines require Tool Testing before they can be used independently. This ensures that members understand how to operate equipment safely.

Do memberships include access to all shops?

1

Yes! All new members must attend a Member Orientation before accessing the building and workshops. During orientation, you’ll learn how the space operates and receive your key fob for building access.

Do I need to attend an orientation before working in a shop?

2

Tool Testing is a short safety assessment that confirms a member can safely operate specific machines without supervision. It is not a class or lesson. Once you pass a tool test, you are cleared to use that equipment independently.

3

What is Tool Testing?

No. Classes and workshops are offered separately from membership. Members often take classes to learn new skills or complete tool testing as part of the class curriculum.

Do memberships include classes?

4

Yes! Day Passes are available for visitors and occasional makers who want to experience the space before committing to a monthly membership.

Can I visit before committing to a membership?

5

Membership charges are processed within 24 hours of signing up for a plan. When selecting your contract start date, you should choose one that aligns with the next Member Orientation you plan to attend.

When will I be charged for my membership?

6

Members must first complete Member Orientation to receive building access. After orientation, members can begin using workshops once any required tool tests are completed.

Can I work in a shop immediately after signing up?

7

Yes! Many classes are open to both members and non-members. Some classes may also include tool testing as part of the curriculum.
